How to spend the perfect weekend in London

London is a beautiful city with a lot to do and see. If you are looking to schedule a fun and exciting trip to London, make sure you really embrace the beauty and wonders of its main tourist attractions. Amongst the things to do in London, you might want to visit the British Museum and the National Gallery and experience the Harry Potter Tour!

A weekend in London with Harry Potter:

What could be more exciting than entering the wonderful world of Harry Potter? Most important thing to know: London is filled with places that appeared in the movies!

My first recommendation is The Harry Potter Studio Tour. It is an amazing adventure for everyone – kids and adults – both if you have or haven’t seen the movies yet (Spoilers ahead). The tour begins with a glimpse into the making of the movies and a tour of the backstage area where some of the scenes were taped. Throughout the 10 years of filming the eight movies of the Harry Potter saga, this studio has been the main location of film making it a very historic place for Harry Potter fans.
The tour takes about three hours altogether. It is a really good time and has been ranked one of the most popular tourist attractions in London, along with the Harry Potter Walking Tour in the city!

A weekend in London in museums:

London’s museums are among the best in the world. And, believe it or not, they are free. So take your dose of culture and art for not a penny!

     Visit the British Museum

Another great attraction in London is the British Museum. This massive museum in the center of London, is one of the largest museums in the World (So big you might need a guide!) It is known for its excellent depiction of humanity and human culture’s evolution. It contains ancient artifacts and tools that were used all throughout history. When touring this museum, you can freely roam its vast halls and explore all it has to offer.

One of its greatest and most popular Gallery is the one with the objects on display dating back to 1778 from the voyage of James Cook, when he sailed the South Sea. The objects displayed are more than a century old and hold a great deal of history for Europe. So, whether you are keen on history or not, this massive museum must be on your to do list while visiting London.

     Discover the National Gallery

Another museum I want to recommend to anyone staying in London, is the National Gallery. This gallery gets about 6800 visitors daily and is home to over 2300 paintings. It is a beacon of the art community that reminds London of it’s historical and cultural past. It is home to some of the most famous paintings worldwide including Men of the docks by George Bellows, The Virgin of the Rocks by Leonardo da Vinci and Sunflowers from Vincent van Gogh.

The gallery itself is a work of art. The architect William Wilkins created a beautiful building. It is truly a remarkable art gallery with a lot of art, culture and history.

A weekend in London like a local:

If you plan to spend a few days in London, here are some suggestions to live just like a local and to fall under its British spell…

     A full English breakfast

For a traditional English breakfast including sausages, black pudding, bacon and beans, let’s go to the R & H cafe gallery not far from Richmond Railway Station! It is a bit away from the tumult of the city center, and definitely a place to visit even if you are in London for a short stay. The food is freshly made and really tasty, there is a great choice of teas. To spoil nothing, the welcome is warm, the staff attentive and very friendly!

     Stroll around

Why don’t you go for a walk after that? London is a very green city, (47% of green space) – with eight beautiful Royal Parks and a multitude of small ones scattered in The City and around. Plus it’s NOT always raining! To live London like a local, you must dare to leave the center and go explore its small “villages” all around the city center.

So, if you are looking for things to do in London, and you want a weekend of fun and sightseeing, pick some ideas and ENJOY!
